Description of Dogwoods

Why are dogwoods called dogwoods?
Some referred to the dogwood as “Hound’s Tree,” while the fruits were known as “dogberries” or “houndberries.” Some have said that the name “dogwood” came from “dagwood” (from the Middle English word dagge, or “dagger”), because the thin stems of the dogwood were used for making dags or skewers.Feb 8, 2015( from wikipedia)
